Kindness of a Stranger
Is it hubris to enter the challenge I inspired? Oh well... There’s a lady on the train platform. She’s tall, with hair a shade of red not found in nature. Briefly, I wonder if it’s a wig, early onset of grey, or just for fun. She’s dressed in black, the kind of long business skirt that you don’t see much these days, and a polo shirt with a name and logo from a company I’ve never heard of. That's not unusual, though; Parramatta is the 'Western CBD', which means both that it's a crowded nightmare to navigate during peak periods, and there are a lot of businesses you've never heard of (as well as a dozen you probably have) within walking distance of the station.

The Rise of Unionizer
Teenage Superheroes needed a Union, and Unionizer needed an excuse to stay off the front lines. Late to his powers, the child of an Elemental who could channel lightning and a Civilian one-night-stand, Unionizer had the uninspiring power of making energy sources go flat. Great if he happened to be facing someone utterly reliant on technology, fairly useless the rest of the time, but take down one giant robot and suddenly everyone expects you to be standing toe to toe with Superman.

John and Francesca: Meet-Cute to Mourning
I'll admit, I'm biased about the John/Francesca love story. Why? Because watching them on screen felt a lot like watching my own Neurodiverse Love Story. Existing together without the need to talk, non-traditional love languages, mutual support in mentally taxing social situations. Learning to advocate for themselves and each other because finally there is someone who understands you.

The Cursed
We cursed them, the massed enemy of the free peoples. The ones who placed the wretched challenge before us. The ones who laughed to see us struggle and fall. "Screw them, screw you, and screw the vocal morons who thought that such a plan would be funny!"

Trans Hate Affects Cis Women Too. Top Story - August 2024.
I have too many Trans friends to have expected better from the world media, but somehow, I'm still disappointed. Trans people, whether transitioned or not, whether they identify as male or female, attract a lot of undeserved hate. What genitalia a person has is between them and their sexual partners and is, legally speaking, none of Joe or Jane Public's business.
