This Life
a list poem about the human experience
This life: riotous and complex.
Brimming with sweet smells. Cool swims.
Foggy mornings. Dancing reflections.
Painted clouds through the skylight.
Steam rising. Satisfied purrs. Smooth lips.
The courage to say the thing.
The grace to share your plate.
The opening and closing of the heart.
The darkening and sparkling of the spirit.
Moss that's crisp in summer's drought-
flexible again with just one rainfall.
This life of breathtaking meteor showers.
Cheekbones lined with salt.
It is riotous, and complex.
