Mary Kenner created the sanitary belt
It is always troubling to me to hear that the color of someone's skin or their gender is the only reason they were not treated fairly. I will never wrap my head around the fact that many modern inventions were unfairly delayed because of racism and or sexism. The black female innovator that I am writing about today created something that was very useful to women during her time. This product is no longer in use today and many young women may not even have heard of it. Mary Kenner invented the sanitary belt which gave women a method that was beneficial during their monthly periods.

Afterpay is an alternative to a credit card
If you have a decent monthly income, cash on hand and a credit score of 700 or more you will have resources available when you find yourself in a financial pinch. If none of the above applies to you then you might want to consider Afterpay. This is a relatively new way to make purchases now and pay for them later. If you qualify, you download the App to your cell phone and then you can purchase up to $600 in merchandise. You pay it off in 4 installments using your debit card. You make an initial down payment at the time of purchase and then you are billed 3 more times at 2 week intervals. Your purchase is paid for within 6 weeks, unless you decide to pay it off early. This service can only be accessed through participating merchants, which vary depending on your location.

Dr. Shirley Jackson the inventor of modern phone technology
I never really gave much thought to certain aspects of modern technology related to telecommunication. When we went from rotary dial to touch tone phones I just assumed that technological advances took place all the time and never considered the individual people who were involved. I had no idea that an African American female was responsible for our being able to push buttons rather than stick our fingers in the old rotary dial telephones. In the back of my mind I had assumed that such inventors were male like George Washington Carver, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Edison. I now know that I was wrong.

‘I Gotcha ‘ revisiting the hit song by Joe Tex
Joe Tex had hit records by being sexist only I did not know it at the time. I didn’t give much thought to “ Skinny Legs and All” (1967) even though I myself was teased for having thin legs. I laughed at his hit “Ain’t Gonna Dance No More With No Big Fat Woman”(1977). I never considering that some heavy set women might have been offended or ridiculed by others because of the lyrics. Along with many others in 1972, I thought “ I Gotcha” was cute.

Stranger Things Ending and the Parallel to the Return of Christ
Parallels to scripture Stranger Things is a Netflix series created by the Duffer brothers. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I saw parallels in the final episode that reminded me of what the Bible says about the end of time and His Second Coming.

My husband and I never shut each other out of the bedroom
"When I came home last night, you wouldn't make love to me." This is the opening line of the 1981 Rick James hit Give It to Me Baby. The sentiment of a woman withholding sex is a part of the fabric of many relationships.

Hail to the chief
If you watched the Inauguration events for Joe Biden, on January 20 you probably heard something that you gave no thought to. The day and evening events for the 46th President of the United States included the song “ Hail to the Chief”. What you might not have realized, however, is that it has been a while since we have heard this song as it was not utilized much during the previous administration. President number 45, Donald Trump rarely used the traditional melody to introduce himself when making public appearances. He opted instead for his own pep rally music when he spoke in front of his supporters.

Amazing Grace: the history behind the popular song
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Country singer Garth Brooks sang Amazing Grace during the Inauguration of Joe Biden. For many, this was not unexpected for the 46th President of the United States. Amazing Grace is a popular song that is heard often at funerals, in real-time as well as reel-time. It seems to be the song of choice in times of crisis such as in the aftermath of the terrorist attack during 911. There is also a rich history behind the origin of this hymn/folk song. The words to "Amazing Grace" were penned in 1772 by English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton and was officially published in 1779. Newton wrote Amazing Grace from his own personal experience.
