spiderwebs, lacy memories
For Poppy's Prompt Thingo 3
By Paul StewartPublished 2 years ago โข 1 min read

spiderwebs, lacy
memories
reminders of who
has been
like knickers
in the basket
spiderwebs, glistening
hail
tell the tale
they tell
like coffee stains
on tabletops
the scent of vanilla,
waxy residue
candlewick
burn out
emotional
black out

Thanks for reading!
Author's Notes: This is a piece for Poppy's Prompts thingo number 3. The words she chose this time around made me think of things that are left behind after people or things go.
If you want, here are a few more pieces...joyfulness may vary.

I love this. So impactful. 'like coffee stains on tabletops the scent of vanilla, waxy residue candlewick burn out emotional black out I just love that part. Also, those words being things people leave behind is such a sad but cool way of looking at it! That makes me wanna write a poem for it now!
I read the authorโs note and it clicked- great idea. I like how theyโre all small and simple things, but signs or remains of something thatโs already been. โlike coffee stains on tabletopsโ. Nicely done Paul!
And the tales they do tell, both real & imagined.
Tell the tale they tell like coffee stains. I really loved that! A veryyyyy Paulitical poem! ๐ฉ๐ฅ
This is a gossamer delight, Paul. It improves and gathers deeper meaning with repetitive reads. Although unstated, I see the thin trail of smoke rising from the snuffed wick at the poem's conclusion. The fragility of both memory and emotion lovingly evoked. Really fine work!
Nicely done, chum.
