Waves washed the stone beach
like a street cleaner. Circular swirls
swept in, turned pebbles to chimes
as they danced with the sea and pirouetted.
A clump of grebes,
long white necks
tucked into wings,
curled up like cats
napping, gently rode
evening currents, while
a lone kayak sliced the sea, propelled by strokes
of unity, two paddlers in silent swift passage
