OBSERVATION OF BEAUTY

A Daily Report from the Field

By Tim CarmichaelPublished about a month ago β€’ Updated about a month ago β€’ 1 min read

All people are hereby informed that:

Sunlight will enter today,

stretching across hills and fields,

turning dew into a thousand small lanterns.

πŸ¦‰

Leaves will tremble, not from fear,

but in polite acknowledgment

of the breeze passing through.

πŸ¦‰

Birds will conduct their morning councils,

each song a report of color and movement,

each wingbeat a formal declaration

that the sky belongs, for now, to them.

πŸ¦‰

Rivers will comply with gravity,

curling and glinting,

reflecting clouds that have no authority

but insist on drifting anyway.

πŸ¦‰

Be advised:

Flowers will appear without noticing.

Do not attempt to catalog them all.

Their fragrance will issue reminders

that attention is the proper response.

πŸ¦‰

Every person is required to notice:

Shadows will lengthen and retract

with precision,

yet always surprise in the way they stretch

over paths, ridges, and hidden hollers.

πŸ¦‰

Each person is instructed to breathe deeply,

to allow air to fill unclaimed spaces

and report back to the heart

the precise location of joy.

πŸ¦‰

No enforcement measures exist for beauty.

It may fall on your shoulders

like sunlight through branches,

or slip along a winding trail.

πŸ¦‰

Finally, take note:

Time, though relentless, can be patient here.

Step slowly.

Watch carefully.

Remain aware that for every day observed

in proper attention,

the world will issue its own commendation.

πŸ¦‰

This concludes the daily nature report.

Failure to comply will result only in

a mild ache of longing,

easily remedied by stepping outside.

It's easy to get stuck in the mire of crap that's swirling all around us, but there is beauty, and serenity out there, too. A wonderful reminder, and so well written. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Excellent, Tim. The optimism and call for self care and focus on nature make this not just a good read but also therapeutic.
