"Everything is so... flat." Denille said stupidly as she looked around her new neighborhood. She looked around at the muted desert where even the smallest sign of life seemed to have given up. The plant life was shrubs that were half cooked by the heat and where there should have been a lawn, a mess of white rocks laid glistening in the sun. Even the sky looked stretched thin, like the sun had ironed it smooth. She’d moved from Riverside, where at least there were hills, but here in Barstow, everything felt baked and brittle.

love this short descriptive Haiku!! Keep them coming!
This haiku captures a beautiful and evocative scene in its conciseness, the coexistence of "unusual darkness" and "dense small forest" creates a feeling of mystery and conspiracy, when the forest "despite deer" still exists, the resilience of nature is emphasized, the haiku gives people the impression of the eternal spirit of nature and the delicate balance between light and shadow, it invites meditation and stimulates imagination. When we read this poem again, we were still very impressed and had many feelings and memories, when studying in Oxford and Cambridge, we often met squirrels, deer and even foxes in the woods of the century-old garden where we lived, we even greeted each other, these scenes are still repeated in our dreams, thank you very much again for sharing, and have a nice weekend! Nature's Persistence in the Forest Among shadows deep, Deer find solace in the woods, Nature's harmony.
In just a few short lines, you've managed to create a vivid and thought-provoking haiku. The juxtaposition of the unusual darkness and the presence of a dense little forest evokes a sense of intrigue and mystery. The phrase "in spite of the deer" adds an unexpected twist, leaving room for interpretation. It hints at a contrast between the peacefulness of nature and the eerie atmosphere of the forest.
