**

on the edge of this mountain

near the edge of defeat

at the edge of my sanity

where the cut brings relief

standing out in a crowd

screaming what nobody hears

voices so silently loud

I could just disappear

blood and emotion mingle

death promises peace

holding onto the dream

that brought me here to this place

daggers and bright lights

center stage as the fool

where the hero's pretending

that he knows what to do

we wear paint to mask the truth

we are as lost as the next

selling hope for a dollar

to a crowd with no sense

so my toes mark this cold stone

the blood a symbol of strength

because I am a survivor

no matter what anyone thinks

**

A/N

I fought off the rhyme so hard...I hope the message still came through. Hang in there warriors. Tomorrow is a new day, and we need you

We are only human and do the best we can in whatever we do in living our lives. That is what I got from this one. Good job.

  • The hero's pretending that he knows what to do... I feel that one line sums up adulthood. We're all just making it up as we go along. Well done Kelli!

  • Edgy indeed. The angst is most definitely present.

I also find it hard to write without rhyming. It must be in our blood. Got the message loud and clear. Some powerful lines in here, Kelli.

I don't think the rhyme hurt anything. A powerful piece, Kelli!
